Program Highlights
The Association of Ministry Guidance Professionals (AMGP) invites you to our annual meeting at Wayland Baptist University, San Antonio. Our president is planning a program that will focus on the broader diversity of ministry guidance.
Keynote Presentations
Dr. Rodolfo Felices Luna, Associate Professor of Sacred Scripture, Oblate School of Theology, San Antonio. Dr. Luna was born in Peru but spent most of his life in Canada. He completed his PhD in 2005 at the University of Montreal focusing on the Gospel of John and structural criticism.
Chaplain (Colonel) Donnette Boyd, Command Chaplain, USAF Air Education and Training Command, Randolph Air Base, San Antonio. Chaplain Boyd recently made history as the first female African American chaplain promoted to the rank of colonel. A Jamaica immigrant, Boyd resigned her commission to attend seminary and now serves as Command Chaplain.
Dr. William Carrell, Professor of Christian Studies and Director of Ministry Guidance, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Belton. Student Minister, Church Planter, Pastor, Professor, and Dean, Carrell joined AMGP a decade ago after returning to UMHB from a pastorate in Maryland. He has just published Introducing Christian Ministry Leadership: Contex, Calling, Character, and Practice.
Directors Workshop
Dr. Jan Daehnert, Director of Ministry Guidance, Dallas Baptist University. Daehnert will be leading the first of two workshops designed for the new and veteran ministry guidance directors. His session will cover Key Components of a Ministry Guidance Program. Through various academic and denominational roles, he has worked with students preparing and serving in ministry for most of his ministry career and now leads the ministry guidance program at DBU.
Dr. Mandy McMichael, Associate Director and J. David Slover Assistant Professor of Ministry Guidance, Baylor University. McMichael will be leading the second workshop designed for new and veteran ministry guidance directors. Her session will cover Key Elements of an Internship/Field Education Experience, Especially in a Post-Covid Ministry Culture. Coming to Baylor in 2017, McMichael immediately became a leader in AMGP and is the current president of the National Association of Baptist Professors of Religion.
Site Visit to La Casa de Maria y Marta
Dr. Dennis Horton, Director of Ministry Guidance, Baylor University has arranged a site visit to La Casa de Maria y Marta, a ministry of San Antonio Mennonite Church. One of Horton's long time focuses has been on cross-cultural ministry. We will have the opportunity to see this ministry to "asylum seekers recently released from detention." La Casa provides a place for immigrant families to rest, recover, and receive the support of a loving community while they discern their next steps.
