Our 2026-2027 AMGP President, Jack Bodenhamer, is Assistant Dean of External Affairs at Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary. A product of Texas Baptist life, Jack received his Bachelor of Arts from Howard Payne University, his Master of Divinity from Logsdon Seminary, and his Doctor of Ministry from Truett Seminary.
As Assistant Dean of External Affairs at George W. Truett Theological Seminary, Jack Bodenhamer provides leadership for initiatives that connect students with opportunities for vocational discernment, ministry service, and long-term flourishing in ministry. Through partnerships with churches, ministry organizations, alumni, and denominational leaders, he helps students and alumni explore their calling, gain meaningful ministry experience, and identify pathways for faithful service. Recently, his work on a Lilly Endowment-funded grant, Ministry for Life, has focused on helping ministers discern and pursue opportunities for service while developing the spiritual maturity, educational growth, personal resilience, and professional skills needed for long-term effectiveness in ministry.
In 2021, Jack Bodenhamer was invited to teach in Baylor University's Ministry Guidance Program, joining a long-standing tradition of mentoring and equipping students as they discern their calling to vocational ministry. Since joining the program, he has worked closely with undergraduate students, helping them integrate theological education, spiritual formation, and practical ministry experience. Drawing on his background in ministry leadership, theological education, and student development, he is committed to cultivating the next generation of Christian leaders through intentional mentoring and vocational guidance.
Jack joined the AMGP in 2022 and attended his first meeting at the annual gathering in San Antonio, Texas. Since that time, he has remained actively involved in the program and values relationships, collaboration, and shared commitment to vocational discernment that characterize the AMGP community. He believes that engagement with fellow ministry educators and mentors through AMGP continually sharpens his approach to guiding students, strengthening both his work with undergraduate students in Baylor University's Ministry Guidance Program and his leadership in preparing seminary students for faithful and effective ministry.
Jack served in congregational ministry for fourteen years, first in youth and education ministry roles and later as senior pastor. These experiences provided a strong foundation for his work in theological education and vocational discernment, allowing him to draw from firsthand experience in the opportunities and challenges of local church ministry. In addition to his work at the seminary and university, Jack continues to serve churches in times of transition as an interim pastor, including recent service with First Baptist Church, Crawford, and First Baptist Church, Temple. He and his wife, Kim, live in Waco with their two boys and a min-golden doodle named Boba Fetch.
